Abstract
The trend towards Islam is increasingly occurring; this phenomenon has been significantly reflected among prisoners. The present study, using a phenomenological approach through secondary data analysis, has examined the case study of Islamism in prisons in England, France and Switzerland. The findings show that a significant number of non-Muslim prisoners have converted to Islam during their imprisonment, and many Muslim prisoners have also developed a deeper commitment to their religious values. This trend is the result of the interaction of psychological factors such as the need for spiritual peace and identity reconstruction, social factors such as a sense of brotherhood and collective cohesion, and environmental factors such as structured religious programs. Functionally, Islamic values, especially the concept of repentance, help reduce the rate of recidivism and the successful rehabilitation of offenders by creating spiritual order, strengthening social bonds and reconstructing a non-criminal identity. Contrary to the media's misinformation, appropriate religious programs not only prevent extremism, but also, by providing moderate and hopeful interpretations, help prisoners' internal transformation and prepare them for return to society. Based on this, this study emphasizes the necessity of developing inclusive and tolerant religious programs in Iran, which includes expanding religious programs based on hopeful Quranic verses, strengthening the role of religious prisoners as positive role models, and developing support networks after release, etc.
